Name: Alaric
Gender: Male
Age: 2
Orientation: Straight
Phase: Últim Trimestre
Rank: El Caçador
Appearance:
Alaric is three-quarters Maine Coon mix and one quarter lynx, and these traits show strongly in many ways. But his most notable feature is not his size or build, but his color; nearly every inch of his fur is a rich golden honey, resulting in a brilliantly shining cat who makes an undetectable predator in grasslands and a beacon pretty well anywhere else. His fur is soft and silken, primarily due to the high amounts of oil he puts off; if he does not care for it properly, however, these oils can become overbearing and disgusting. As such, Alaric is quite obsessive about his coat. While perhaps a little impractical, this means his normal look is quite sleek, with long fur on his cheeks hanging down in a very lynx-like fashion and feathers at his eartips and about his unusually large paws as accent.
Overall, Alaric's coat is very solid, though from close enough one will see it is in fact flecked subtly, other shades simply overpowered by the mass of gold. His eyes are one of the only obvious break to this, these a brilliant pale blue flecked with the tiniest bits of green and gray. Like anything pale-eyed, this means his vision in the light is a bit weaker than others', but Alaric has always preferred the night life anyhow. The deep black about his eyerims and lips mark further distinctions, along with his rather large, even slightly misplaced nose.
This cat is very powerful, though one cannot tell at a glance, for he is quite tall but also quite thin. His great physical strength is concealed well beneath his golden fur in the form of very long, lean muscles. While these still ripple with extreme movements where his fur is short enough to reveal this, they are not notably large, proportionately. He is quite agile, then, even well-built for a spy, though with his fur and obsession therewith he could never take full advantage of this potential. This is not, of course, to say that Alaric is not a large cat, for his structure is quite lean *proportionately*. Overall, he is small for his lineage, but taller than the average cat by a fair deal, standing at a whopping 19 inches from ground to shoulder.
Personality:
Alaric is very much the hopeless romantic, with a deep and profound phobia of commitment, though he denies the latter fact. His driving force in life, then, is to make women happy; he lives to see their smiles. He is quite the gallant, then, and likely to at least flirt with pretty well every female that passes by, and potentially a good deal more with interested femmes ranging from barely mature to as high as 10 years. This is entirely up to her, however. Though 'unofficial' is his main style, he is not beyond real if short-term relationships if he gets along well enough with a girl, during which time he is less flirtatious, though perhaps not completely potential-mate material to most. The best way to drive him away, however, is to ask for commitment on any level; the more she asks for, the faster he's running, though he'll sometimes attempt to spare her feelings first.
These traits have been mentioned first because they are in fact the most defining about him, especially in the eyes of onlookers; note that this speaks entirely of females. Alaric quite prefers to have as little to do with other males as possible, at least directly, unless they have some sort of important rank or purpose. The average commoner male has one use, in his opinion, which is to be a lover, provider, and protector to a fae. (Children do not share this limitation; kits are kits, cute and innocent. It's grown toms he loathes.) Interestingly, he holds a general philosophy that every girl is a princess, but he is not her prince- only a humble knight wishing to cater her fancy until she finds him; despite this, he is actually quite the hypocrite in being very territorial. A current interest could tell him she'd fallen in love with another guy, or even that she'd cheated or wished to become someone else's mate, and he would- while with some pain to his pride- readily encourage her to pursue it; however, seeing another guy so much as looking her way will drive him to fits of jealousy.
His ideals honestly quite mirror many human cultures' traditional gender roles which place a woman as a wife and mother and her man as working to support them. However, unlike many with such a view, this is not because he believes males superior, but inferior, including himself. To give a somewhat contemporary explanation, the movie Mulan contains a song with the line: "We all must serve our emperor who shields us from the Huns/ A man by bearing arms, a girl by bearing sons." Intention of this seems quite clear at first glance, but closer examination reveals quite a truth: a female is not incapable of bearing fangs, but a male CAN'T bear kittens. Thus, he is forced into the role which he CAN fill. Alaric knows and embraces this... or in theory, at any rate, as he himself has barely begun his own line of work. He does NOT believe that a female shouldn't fight or hunt, only that it should be either because she has not found a mate to care for her yet or because she enjoys it and wants to, not out of necessity. As to males whose.. interests lie elsewhere, so to speak.. Alaric is actually quite a severe homophobe, though his outward reactions tend to be mild; this applies to either gender, as well. A girl who is bi will make him uncomfortable once he finds out, but is not off limits. (... A guy who is bi is still a guy, and treated like any other of any orientation. xP) Girls whose tastes do not include his kind are still valued as potential friends, but given he has difficulty interacting with strangers in any way other than flirting, are still more likely to draw less attention. In general, he doesn't particularly -care- who a person loves; he just doesn't want to have to see it.
When it comes to forming friendships, Alaric values truth to self above all else. He is more likely to get along with or at least respect someone whose views and interests clash constantly with his own than one who fakes similarities. Growing up with strict expectations from his caste, not that those expecting were generally anything if not disappointed, he grew to resent such social requirements. Basic tact and morals are wonderful and necessary things, but abandoning oneself for fear of offending another is not. These ideals seem a little inconsistent placed next to his desire to join Lluna Plena, but in his eyes such things as they ask should come naturally, and taint otherwise is not a part of self but an obstruction of it.
Past that, he considers himself a fairly good cat (at least when in his right mind), and likes the company of others who are as well. That is, those who are kind to others not because they should be or hope to earn anything, but simply because they enjoy it. This said, a particularly dark woman has a forbidden appeal he tries and nearly always fails to resist. At any rate.. As to more trivial traits, he is not picky, and can find a certain charm about most things. A shy or awkward girl is adorable; a sharp-tongued girl or total tease is alluring; a strong-willed girl instills him with respect, and so on.
'Most things' is not 'all', however, and there are plenty of ways to turn him away. As mentioned, asking him for commitment is a pretty near guarantee. In addition, asking him or anyone else to change to suit another's desires, be the request for false change or true longterm. He loathes those that would willingly and knowingly hurt another person, mentally or physically; in particular, any man who would lay a hand on a woman does not deserve to live. As it happens, this view is actually significantly deeper than he lets on.
In truth, Alaric quite loathes himself underneath his masks of comfort and such- yet another act of hypocrisy. He has a fair few selfish tendencies, and retrospectively is very aware of them, yet they often go unnoticed as they happen. He likes to tell himself he has strong morals, yet these are often actually the cause of many in-retrospect-stupid things he does, as he is rather easy to manipulate if one takes the right approach to doing so. Convince him anything is for a good cause in the end, and it is shocking what he becomes willing to do- that is, he is quite literally noble to a fault, and believes ends will justify means. Finally, the things he has done in his past... There are many things he regrets, but one... Well, let us say he does not eat anything he is unsure about anymore and leave it at that; Alaric dislikes not being in his right mind. Even still, his mood swings can be violent, at times even physically. It is rare to depress him outside reminders of a few specific events in his past, and rarer still to anger him (though annoying is easy enough). When truly enraged, however, he becomes a different person indeed, and is not at all beyond physical violence, regardless who toward.
He is physically pretty self-conscious as well. He takes religious care of his fur- which he likes to think of as acceptable currency in some sects- but is concerned it is not enough to redeem his other flaws. He is especially touchy about his nose, any attention whatsoever drawn to it invariably causing him to grow silent and recoil, usually with an involuntary paw covering his face. His lynx's feet are enormous and somewhat awkward, especially with his build. He also sometimes feels a bit inadequate for his physique. He is not scrawny, per se, but certainly feels it and is not far off besides. In truth, he is deceptively strong and in pretty good shape, but a cruel toss of the genetic dice prevents his body from noticeably reflecting it. He worries at times, then, that a femme may find him less attractive for it, particularly if a "better" built male is nearby.
Alaric really does long to be loved, to be fully accepted for everything he is and forgiven for all he's done. However, he does not believe he deserves this, even fears it, terrified that he will only serve to disappoint again.. to be hurt again... to hurt again... His is a sad and lonely soul, ever longing to fill the void in his heart, yet afraid to allow anything to do so long-term, instead jumping from quick-fix to quick-fix. In truth, this provides a good deal of his obsession with the Lluna Plena, as a part of him hopes that their acceptance will fill the gap instead, or that being assimilated into their righteousness will cleanse his past transgressions. He is not fully aware of this belief, and likely would not be fully certain just what he hoped to achieve by it if he were, but it provides a consistent and driving force for his life all the same.
Of course, all this depth is rarely seen. No, the Alaric known to the world- not to say that this is not also truly Alaric, for the most part- is a calm, cool, somewhat smug young cat with a light, gentle heart and a love of bad jokes. For lack of any more accurate way to say it, he is a bit of an ass, and loves to debate and get others riled up so long as it remains more or less in fun. He is the hyperactive child, longing for excitement and fun things. He is the big brother, adoring and protective, but also unbearably annoying with a strong love of teasing. He is the too-easy flirt, and a bit of a playboy even, though he holds romance in higher regard than anything. And he is, for all his smooth skill, at times just a big dork. Alaric loves fantasy, hearing tales of dragons and magic, and pretending to be the hero within such. He can also show signs of ADOS at times. (That is, "Attention Defi- OOH SHINY.") To make females smile is his life's work, and he is quite good at what he does.. but even this smooth stud can't overcome his inner nerdtastic nature, nor would he want to if he could.
Overall, Alaric's philosophy in life is "If you don't have fun, what's the point?" He strives for a brighter future, but does so second, living for the moment and savoring every little joy as if it were the last.
